The SIGMA 17-40mm F1.8 DC Art features a silent HLA autofocus system, suppressed focus breathing, dust and water resistance, and a design that's engineered to perform great for shooting both stills and high-definition video. The lens provides a constant f/1.8 aperture throughout the focal range of 17 to 40mm, which is equivalent to approximately 27.2-64mm when converted to full frame. It is based on the highly popular 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM | Art, but is more than a third lighter - the Canon version weighs 560g.
The lens is composed of 17 optical elements arranged in 11 groups, with 4 SLD and 4 aspherical elements. This design ensures sharp, high-resolution images even when the aperture is fully open. Thanks to effective axial chromatic aberration correction, the lens renders fine details and textures superbly. In addition, it features a special Super Multi-Layer treatment that helps reduce flare and unwanted ghosting.
Thanks to the internal zoom mechanism, the lens doesn't move out of focus when changing focal lengths, ensuring better balance when shooting handheld, on a tripod or when using a gimbal. The compact size and light weight, along with the 67mm filter thread, make it easy to handle. The front optical element is protected by a special water and grease repellent coating, and the entire lens body is structurally protected against dust and splashes.
The lens features a customisable control ring. There are two programmable AFL buttons on the lens body that are easy to reach for horizontal and vertical shooting.
