The Sennheiser MKE 440 uses two matched supercardioid mini-shotgun capsules to create natural stereo width while reducing distracting sound from the sides and rear. It is designed for cameras and camcorders with a standard shoe and a 3.5 mm stereo microphone input.
Each capsule captures one stereo channel, with both angled to cover the scene inside the camera's field of view. The result is balanced ambience with a clear center for speech and on-screen action without excessively widening off-camera noise.
A double-layer stainless-steel micro-mesh protects the capsules, reduces wind and preserves fine high-frequency detail better than ordinary foam. Integrated elastic suspension reduces handling noise. The body provides −23 / −42 / −63 dBV sensitivity settings and switchable low-cut; the optional MZH 440 furry windshield is intended for stronger wind.
A 50 Hz to 20 kHz response, 132 dB SPL maximum level and more than 100 hours of operation suit interviews, documentary work, live music and environmental recording. The fixed coiled cable terminates in a 3.5 mm stereo jack for direct camera connection.
