The Sennheiser CL 400 is a short output cable for the AVX EKP plug-on receiver. One end is a female 3-pin XLR that fits straight onto the receiver; the other is a 3.5 mm jack for a camera's microphone input. It lets you use a professional AVX receiver on a camera that has no XLR input — an ordinary mirrorless body or compact. The 40 cm length is chosen so the receiver can hang on a cage or a strap with no cable left over.
Connecting cable
The AVX EKP plug-on receiver is built for an XLR input. The CL 400 turns it into a signal source for any camera with a 3.5 mm microphone input, so the same radio mic kit works on big and small bodies alike.
The cable is short on purpose: the receiver hangs on a cage or strap and forty centimetres is exactly enough to reach the camera input. Nothing is left looping in shot or catching on things, while there is still enough slack to swing the camera.
