A star filter has a fine grid etched into the glass that turns every point light into a star with rays. It comes into its own in the night-time city, on Christmas lights, candles or reflections on water. The number and angle of the rays are set by turning the front ring.

The number of points is switched between four and eight by turning the front ring. Four points keep the scene readable and suit Christmas lights or candles; eight turn every point of light into a pronounced star on a night street.
