Atomos Sun Dragon 5m

The Atomos Sun Dragon 5m (ATOMSND001) is a flexible, professional RGBAW light in the form of a 5-meter strip approximately 3 cm wide. The non-diffused version has a power consumption of 80 W and, thanks to its densely packed LEDs, produces a continuous light without distracting micro-shadows. The manufacturer specifies a CRI of Ra ≥97, TLCI ≥96, SSI up to 91, and a color temperature range of 2,000–20,000 K. Weighing less than 1 kg, this lightweight strip can be shaped and used even in damp conditions: its lighting section has an IP68 rating for submersion up to 1 m, though the included control unit is not waterproof. Control options include wired DMX, wireless CRMX, Ethernet with Art-Net 4/sACN, and a mobile app via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Power is supplied by the included AC adapter or compatible V-Mount batteries.

Frameless Light

The Sun Dragon is a five-meter-long flexible film light with five LED colors: red, green, blue, amber, and white. The undiffused version features a straight light strip that can be run along the edges of a scene, coiled into a spiral, or used as a striking light accent.

Shape the light to suit the shot

The lightweight strip, approximately 3 cm in diameter, can be placed in the foreground, hung along a set piece, or used to outline an object. During a shoot with cinematographer Chris Magee, it also served as a portable light source for a night scene; instead of a row of fixed lights, all it took was unrolling a single continuous line. The high density of LEDs helps maintain uniform color and brightness along the entire length without micro-shadows.

Precise Color and Control

The controller with a color display adjusts color temperature from 2,000 to 20,000 K, as well as hue, saturation, and brightness in 0.1% increments. Atomos specifies a CRI Ra of at least 97, a TLCI of at least 96, and an SSI D56 of 88 / tungsten 91. Available control options include wired DMX, wireless CRMX, Ethernet with Art-Net 4 or sACN, and apps via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. A V-Mount battery enables operation without a power outlet; a power adapter is also included in the package.

Light Strip for Demanding Conditions

The light itself has an IP68 rating, and the manufacturer allows it to be briefly submerged to a depth of 1 m. The control unit is not waterproof: keep it and the power connections away from rain and moisture. When bending the strip, ensure a bend radius of approximately 30 cm or greater.
