Tilta wooden side handle for the left-hand side of a cage, Type VII version in Tilta Gray. The body is hand-carved from solid black walnut and sits on a CNC-milled aluminium-alloy frame — it does not slip in the hand, does not go cold in frost and weighs only 150.75 g. It is held to the cage by a 1/4″-20 screw with locating pins on a detachable arm, so it fits onto the Tilta Full Camera Cage for the Sony a7C. On top there is a 1/4″-20 thread for a cold shoe, a light or a microphone.

The handle mounts on the left-hand side of a Tilta cage and gives the rig a second solid point to hold on to. The body is hand-carved from solid black walnut and sits on a CNC-milled aluminium-alloy frame. Wood does not slip in the hand and does not go cold outdoors in winter, the shape stays comfortable through a long shoot, and the whole handle weighs 150.75 g, so it adds next to nothing to the rig.

Type VII mount: 1/4″-20 with pins on a detachable arm

Type VII holds the handle with a 1/4″-20 screw and locating pins that stop it rotating, but the whole part sits on a detachable arm with a lever — the handle comes off and goes back on with no tools and without loosening the screw in the cage. The manufacturer designed this type for the Tilta Full Camera Cage for the Sony a7C. It does not fit a cage with a NATO rail or a rosette — types III, IV and VI are made for those.

Small, yet it carries the whole rig

The handle measures 99 × 71 × 41 mm — it takes up less room in a bag than a lens and does not get in the way on the cage when you fold the screen out or swap a battery. It is built entirely from aluminium alloy and stainless steel, so it carries a rig with a lens, monitor and recorder without complaint.

A shape that fits the palm

The scallops on the sides guide your fingers into a natural grip and the flare at the top stops your hand sliding down, so you do not have to re-seat it during a long handheld take. Wood keeps the temperature of your hand — unlike an aluminium handle it does not go cold in frost or burn in the sun.

Every piece is carved from solid black walnut and finished by hand, so the grain pattern is different on each handle. The wood is not lacquered to a high gloss — the surface stays matte and natural so it still holds in a sweaty palm.

1/4″-20 thread on top for accessories

The top face of the aluminium frame carries a 1/4″-20 thread. A cold shoe, a small light, a microphone, a phone mount or a controller goes straight on it, so the accessory sits right above your hand instead of competing for space on the cage.

Left side — the right-hand version is the TA-RWH series

This handle is the left-hand one — both the shape of the wood and the position of the mount are made for the left hand. Tilta makes the mirrored right-hand version as the TA-RWH series with the same mount types, so the two can be used as a pair and the camera is carried in both hands like a shoulder rig.
