Lying flat, the centre of gravity is lower

The Insta360 X5 is usually carried upright on a pole. But as soon as you suction it to a bonnet or a windscreen it stands tall and every bump sets it swinging. The horizontal mounting plate holds the cage with the camera lying flat: the centre of gravity of the rig drops towards the mounting point, the rig is stiffer and the shot calmer. For dynamic shots from a car, a boat or an arm it is the simplest way to get a stable image out of the X5.

No tools, cage only

The plate screws by hand onto the Tilta cage for the Insta360 X5 — no hex key, no screwdriver. It comes off just as quickly when you go back to shooting upright. It is made of aluminium alloy with stainless steel screws, in the Titanium Gray of the cage. On its own it does not attach to the camera: it is designed exclusively for the Tilta Full Camera Cage on the Insta360 X5, which you need to have.

The Tilta cage system

A Tilta cage is only the start: every series has parts designed for the camera body — top handles, side handles with a REC button, HDMI and USB-C cable clamps, battery plates, 15 mm rod holders, lens adapters and ARCA or NATO interfaces. The parts share 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads with locating pins, NATO rails and cold shoes, so they combine across series. This part is one of them.
