The Tamron 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD (model A067) lens creates a whole new category of high-performance ultra-telephoto zoom lenses for mirrorless cameras. With an 8x zoom ratio starting at an unprecedented 50mm focal length, this Sony E-mount lens is the same size as conventional 100-400mm lenses, yet offers a wider angle of view for outstanding versatility. Despite the high magnification ratio, the effective arrangement of special optical elements ensures high image quality throughout the entire 50-400mm range. The lens features a VXD linear focusing mechanism that offers excellent quietness and quick response, and a patented VC image stabilization mechanism that provides versatile options for all shooting scenarios. Because the 50-400 mm F4.5-6.3 lens provides up to half life-size magnification when focusing close up, users can enjoy the world of half macro photography with close-up shooting capabilities at a minimum focusing distance of 0.25 m at a focal length of 50 mm. The filter size is 67 mm, the same as most other TAMRON lenses for mirrorless cameras, providing greater convenience when using multiple lenses. The lens is also equipped with ergonomic features that support comfortable shooting. The connector port for TAMRON Lens Utility for this lens offers the TAMRON Lens Utility tool and a new "Focus Limiter" function.

Di III - Mirrorless systems

These lenses are designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras and cannot be used with digital SLR cameras.

VXD

VXD autofocus is a world first: it is the first linear focus motor developed by Tamron for superior autofocus performance. Two VXD modules, which operate in a floating system and are controlled by electronic pulses, ensure fast and accurate focusing on both near and distant objects. The new motor also guarantees improved AF tracking, for example when shooting sports. Autofocus is so quiet that you can shoot even in situations that require complete silence and tranquility.

MR - Splash Protection

Tamron lenses feature a weather-resistant coating that optimally protects the sensitive interior from wind and weather. The robust outer casing is effectively sealed against moisture ingress at all critical points (e.g., between the focus ring and the bayonet mount). This ensures reliable operation even in the most adverse outdoor shooting conditions.

Special XLD optical elements

Similar to LD, it prevents chromatic aberration and other defects. However, XLD is a much more sophisticated system that is mostly used in telephoto zoom lenses.

Special LD optical elements

Color aberration is a common optical defect that manifests itself in many ways. We often talk about so-called chromatic aberration, which occurs more frequently with wide-angle lenses. LD elements are made of special optical glass with extremely low light dispersion, which effectively compensates for color defects, especially noticeable when using telephoto lenses at their extreme position.

BBAR / BBAR G2

The BBAR coating prevents reflection and scattering of light hitting the lens surface. You avoid loss of brightness and contrast and prevent "ghosting." The BBAR coating also contributes to natural color rendering. Since 2019, the advanced BBAR G2 coating has been used.

Anti-reflective and high-tech FLR coating

The fluoride coating permanently protects the front lens from contamination. Oil and water droplets do not adhere to the surface, which is therefore very easy to clean.

ASL - Aspherical lenses

The abbreviation "ASL" (ASpherical Lens) refers to hybrid aspherical lens elements. They correct typical aberrations in zoom lenses, such as spherical aberrations (focus errors). In addition, several other optical elements can be replaced, enabling a more compact design and consistently high image quality.

VC - Image stabilization

This mechanism helps to maintain a sharp image when shooting without a tripod or in poor lighting conditions.

ZL - Zoom Lock

ZOOM LOCK allows you to lock the zoom at any focal length.

Tamron Lens Utility

The new "TAMRON Lens Utility" software has been developed specifically for configuring compatible lenses. TAMRON Lens Utility can be controlled from a computer by connecting the lens to its connector port via a TAMRON USB-C cable. Users can customize functions and update firmware via the lens. Individual settings allow the lens to be optimally adapted to the shooting situation, such as photography or video recording.
