Sony SMAD-P3D

The Sony SMAD-P3D is a two-channel Multi Interface (MI) shoe adaptor that connects the Sony URX-P03D wireless receiver to a camcorder or camera without cables. Both audio channels reach the camera through the shoe, and on professional camcorders the receiver also takes its power from the camera.

Both channels through the shoe

On an XDCAM or NXCAM camcorder, the URX-P03D receiver with the adaptor slides into the MI shoe and the camera records both of its channels. The receiver switches on and off with the camera.

One switch for the whole rig

On professional camcorders the receiver takes its power from the camera, so it needs no batteries.

With α cameras, the receiver runs on AA batteries

Audio also reaches α cameras through the shoe; power is not guaranteed there, so the receiver needs AA batteries and BATT ONLY mode.

The SMAD-P3D adaptor mounts the UWP-D series URX-P03D wireless receiver on camcorders and interchangeable-lens cameras that have a Multi Interface (MI) shoe. No cable connection is needed: the audio signal from the receiver goes straight into the camera through the shoe. The receiver can also take its power from the camera, and the camera switches it on and off together with itself, so a single switch controls the power of the wireless system.

No XLR cable needed

Through the MI shoe, the two-channel audio signal from the URX-P03D receiver reaches the camera without XLR cables.

Power from the camera

The receiver's power can be switched on and off from the camcorder or camera. With α cameras, Cyber-shot, Handycam camcorders and the ILME-FX3, however, power supply and on/off control from the camera are not guaranteed: insert new AA alkaline batteries into the receiver and set PWR SOURCE to BATT ONLY to avoid an unexpected camera shutdown or data loss.

Mains power and firmware

PXW-Z150 and HXR-NX5R running on AC power need a battery fitted in the camera, otherwise powering the receiver from the camera is not guaranteed. The PXW-X200 requires firmware version 2.00 or later.

Recording from the shoe and the camera input

When the PXW-Z150, HXR-NX5R, HXR-NX100, PXW-FS5, PXW-FS5 II or FDR-AX100 record from the audio input and the MI shoe at the same time, INPUT1 on CH1 with MI SHOE on CH2 (CH2 records receiver OUTPUT2), or MI SHOE on CH1 with INPUT2 on CH2 (CH1 records OUTPUT1) is recommended. With MI SHOE on CH1 and INPUT1 on CH2, CH1 records receiver OUTPUT2.
