Sennheiser MZM1 Bl

The Sennheiser MZM 1 is a magnetic mount for the MKE 1 miniature lavalier microphone. It comes as a plate and a counterpart: the microphone sits in the holder, which is drawn through the fabric to the plate hidden under the clothing. There is no clip to give away where the microphone is and no pin to make a hole — which is why this is how it is done in theatre, in television studios and anywhere the microphone should be as invisible as possible. The black finish disappears into a dark costume.

Why theatre and television use it

A magnetic mount is a quiet, quick way to move a microphone between costumes or reposition it during a change. And because nothing pierces the fabric, the costume is not damaged — which matters with hired or period pieces.
