Product description

NiSi Armor FX Pro Nano L395 UV 58 mm is a heavy-duty UV protection filter for lenses with a 58 mm thread. It is designed to stay intact under strong impacts that would shatter a standard UV filter, so the lens stays protected on adventures, travel and action shoots. CINE optical glass with double-sided nano coating gives 99% transmission, neutral colours and full 8K sharpness, and the 3.5 mm knurled brass frame does not vignette down to 14 mm.

Looking for a protective filter that survives what a normal UV filter does not? The NiSi Armor FX Pro Nano L395 UV 58 mm is a UV protection filter for lenses with a 58 mm filter thread, built to withstand heavy impacts – where a traditional UV filter shatters, the Armor FX stays in one piece and keeps protecting the lens. Inside is CINE optical glass with double-sided low-reflection nano coating (99% transmission), UHD double-sided polishing for 8K sharpness, and a UV cut below 395 nm against haze and blue cast. The ultra-slim 3.5 mm brass frame with twill knurling is easy to grip and free of vignetting even on 14 mm lenses.

NiSi Armor FX UV – ultimate protective shield

KEY FEATURES

  • Impact-resistant: designed to withstand heavy impacts – traditional UV filters shatter, the Armor FX stays intact.
  • FX effect: in the unlikely event of a crack, NiSi says it turns into a creative effects filter.
  • CINE optical glass: high light transmittance, neutral colour, no loss of sharpness.
  • Double-sided nano coating: 99% transmission, low reflection, waterproof, oil-proof, easy to clean.
  • UHD technology: double-sided high-precision polishing for 8K ultra-high definition.
  • UV cut L395: blocks UV below 395 nm – less haze and blue cast.
  • 3.5 mm brass frame: twill knurling for grip, no vignetting even on 14 mm lenses.
  • Many sizes: available in 39, 40.5, 43, 46, 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72, 77, 82, 86, 95 mm.

WHEN TO USE A HEAVY-DUTY PROTECTIVE FILTER

Use the Armor FX wherever the lens is at real risk – it is designed for situations in which a normal filter would break.

  • Adventure and expeditions: rocks, ice, falls and transport in a backpack.
  • Action and sports: mountain biking, skiing, motorsport, close to the action.
  • Beach, desert and sea: sand, salt spray and wind.
  • Events and street: crowds, bumps and accidental knocks.
  • Rental and shared gear: the filter takes the hits instead of the front element.

BUILT TO TAKE THE HIT

Standard UV vs NiSi Armor FX after impact

After a strong impact: a standard UV filter shatters (left), the NiSi Armor FX stays in one piece (right) – NiSi test.

ADVANTAGES OVER A STANDARD UV FILTER

  • Does not shatter like ordinary glass: standard UV filters break on strong impact – sharp shards can damage the lens.
  • CINE glass: better transmission and neutral colour than basic filter glass.
  • Brass frame: stronger than aluminium, does not jam on the lens thread.
  • Slim 3.5 mm: no vignetting even on very wide lenses.

WHICH FILTER DO I NEED?

What it does Best for Example on syntex.sk
UV / protective Clear glass that protects the front lens from dust, rain, sand and scratches; no visible effect on the picture. Everyday shooting, travel, beach, rain, events. TTArtisan Slim PRO UV
Polarizer (CPL) Removes reflections from water, glass and leaves, deepens blue skies, increases saturation. Landscapes, water, architecture, cars, travel. K&F Concept A Series CPL
ND (neutral density) Darkens the whole image evenly by a fixed number of stops, without changing colours. Long exposures, smooth water, bright-light video, wide aperture in sun. K&F Concept Nano-X ND64
Variable ND (VND) ND with adjustable strength – turn the ring to set how much light is cut. Video outdoors, quickly changing light. Moment Variable ND 2–5 stop
Black Mist / diffusion Softens highlights and skin, adds a gentle glow and a cinematic look. Portraits, video, weddings, night lights. K&F Concept Nano-X Black Mist 1/4
Square filter system Holder with square / rectangular filters (ND, graduated ND); one set fits several lenses via adapter rings. Serious landscape photography, sunsets, graduated skies. K&F Concept 100 mm square filter holder

HOW TO USE A UV / PROTECTIVE FILTER

A UV / protective filter stays on the lens all the time. It does not change the exposure or colours – it protects the front element from dust, rain, sand, sea spray, fingerprints and knocks, and a clean filter is much cheaper to replace than a scratched lens.

  1. Screw it on finger-tight as soon as you unpack the lens.
  2. Keep it clean – a dirty protective filter costs contrast, especially against the light.
  3. Take it off for special filters – when you use a CPL, ND or Black Mist, unscrew the UV filter instead of stacking.
  4. Use a lens hood – it reduces flare and protects the filter from side light and bumps.

Common mistakes:

  • Cheap uncoated glass – causes flare and ghosting at night and against the sun; a multi-coated filter avoids it.
  • Stacking on wide-angle lenses – a UV filter plus another filter can cause dark corners.
  • Night shots of bright lights – if you see ghost reflections of street lights, take the filter off for that shot.

HOW TO FIND YOUR FILTER SIZE

The filter thread is printed on the front of the lens barrel or inside the lens cap, marked with the ø symbol (for example ø58). The filter size must be exactly the same – this filter is 58 mm. The table below shows typical sizes, but always check your own lens.

Typical filter thread
Compact and pancake lenses, small primes 37 – 52 mm
Kit zooms and standard primes 49 – 67 mm
Standard zooms f/4, many travel zooms 67 – 77 mm
Professional f/2.8 zooms 77 – 82 mm
Large telephoto and some ultra-wide zooms 86 – 105 mm

Tip – one filter for several lenses: buy the filter for your largest filter thread and use step-up rings for lenses with smaller threads, for example a K&F Concept step-up / step-down ring set. A step-up ring goes from a smaller lens thread to a larger filter (e.g. 67 → 77 mm) and does not cause vignetting; a step-down ring (larger lens, smaller filter) usually does. The only drawback: the standard lens hood and lens cap may not fit with the ring attached.

NiSi Armor FX CINE optical glass

CINE OPTICAL GLASS AND NANO COATING

Double-sided low-reflection nano coating gives 99% transmittance with extremely low reflection. The surface is waterproof and oil-proof, so it is easy to clean. UHD double-sided high-precision polishing keeps full sharpness even with 8K and high-megapixel sensors.

NiSi Armor FX ultra-slim brass frame

3.5 MM BRASS TWILL FRAME

The ultra-slim 3.5 mm brass frame with twill knurling gives a secure grip and prevents vignetting even on lenses as wide as 14 mm.

NiSi Armor FX – FX filter transformation

FX – A SECOND LIFE

In the rare event that the filter cracks, NiSi says the cracked glass turns into a unique creative effects filter – hence the name FX.

COMBINING FILTERS

  • CPL + ND: for long exposures of water with the reflections removed. Put the ND filter on the lens first and the CPL in front, so you can still rotate it.
  • Two filters at most: every extra layer of glass adds risk of flare, reflections and loss of sharpness; more than two filters on a wide-angle lens almost always cause vignetting.
  • Slim frames for wide angles: on lenses wider than about 24 mm (full frame) use slim filters and check the corners at the widest focal length.
  • One filter instead of two: combined filters such as ND + CPL in one frame avoid stacking altogether.
  • Systems for faster work: filter systems with an adapter ring (magnetic or press-fit, e.g. NiSi Swift) let you add or swap filters without unscrewing them each time.

USE IT WITH

WHICH NiSi UV FILTER TO CHOOSE?

NiSi makes several UV / protective filters. All block UV light below 395 nm; they differ in glass, coating and frame.

Frame Glass and coating Best for
Pro Nano AIR UV Brass, ultra-thin, knurled 48-layer ULRC coating, 99.9 % peak transmission, 0.1 % reflectivity High-resolution cameras (100 MP+), premium lenses
Armor FX Pro Nano L395 UV (this filter) Brass, 3.5 mm, twill knurling CINE optical glass, double-sided nano coating, 99 % transmission, impact-resistant Adventure, travel, action – maximum protection
SMC UV L395 Ultra-thin, 5.2 mm Japanese optical glass, double-sided multi-coating Everyday protection at an affordable price

ARMOR FX VS OTHER NiSi UV FILTERS

  • Armor FX vs AIR UV: AIR UV has the highest transmission (99.9%); Armor FX is the toughest.
  • Armor FX vs SMC UV L395: SMC is the basic everyday option; Armor FX is for gear at real risk.

CARE AND CLEANING

  1. Blow off dust first – a blower or a soft brush removes sand and grit that could scratch the glass.
  2. Clean fingerprints and drops with a Lenspen cleaning pen or a dry K&F Concept microfibre cloths; wipe from the centre outwards.
  3. Do not breathe on the glass and do not use household cleaners – they can damage the coating.
  4. Store filters in a case, such as the Moment filter case or Lowepro GearUp Filter Pouch 100, not loose in a bag.
  5. Do not over-tighten – if a filter gets stuck, a rubber filter wrench or a rubber glove helps; never use tools that bend the frame.
  6. Cold to warm – after coming in from the cold, let the filter warm up in a closed bag before cleaning to avoid condensation.
