The Neumann U 89 i MT is a premium multi-pattern large-diaphragm condenser microphone renowned for its versatility and transparent sound quality. Designed as a universal studio microphone, it adapts effortlessly to vocals, speech, orchestral recordings, acoustic instruments, ensembles, and broadcast applications.

At its core is a precision dual-diaphragm pressure-gradient capsule protected by a durable head grille. A rotary selector allows users to choose from five polar patterns—omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, and figure-8—making it easy to optimize microphone performance for different recording environments and sound sources.

The U 89 i MT also features a switchable two-stage low-cut filter that attenuates frequencies below 80 Hz or 160 Hz, helping reduce unwanted rumble, handling noise, and proximity effect. A switchable 6 dB pre-attenuation pad increases the maximum sound pressure handling capability from 134 dB SPL to 140 dB SPL, enabling distortion-free recording of louder sound sources.

With an extended frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, low distortion, and highly accurate off-axis response, the U 89 i MT offers exceptional sonic precision and flexibility, making it an excellent choice for demanding professional recording applications.
