The Neumann M 147 Tube is a large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone featuring the legendary K 47 capsule derived from the U 47 and M 49. Combining classic tube warmth with modern transformerless output circuitry, it delivers ultra-low noise performance, a smooth cardioid response, and exceptional versatility for vocals and instrument recording in professional studio environments.
The Neumann M 147 Tube is a premium large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone designed for professional recording applications that demand both classic sonic character and modern technical performance. At its core is the legendary K 47 dual-diaphragm capsule, inherited from iconic microphones such as the U 47 and M 49, known for their rich, detailed, and musical sound reproduction.
In the M 147 Tube, the capsule signal is processed through a vacuum tube stage used as an impedance converter, followed by a transformerless output circuit. This innovative hybrid design combines the warmth and harmonic richness of tube technology with the clarity, low distortion, and extremely low noise performance of modern solid-state output stages. The result is a microphone that delivers outstanding signal purity and can be used with very long cable runs—up to 300 meters—without any loss of audio quality.
The microphone features a cardioid polar pattern with a frequency response that remains flat through the upper mids before gently rising by approximately 3 dB above 2 kHz, providing presence and clarity in vocal and instrument recordings. Its directional behavior becomes more focused at higher frequencies, echoing the acoustic characteristics of classic Neumann designs such as the U 47 and U 47 FET.
Thanks to its exceptionally low self-noise and refined tonal balance, the M 147 Tube excels as a vocal microphone but is equally effective as a spot microphone for acoustic instruments in both studio and broadcast environments. The capsule and internal system are elastically mounted to minimize mechanical interference, while the compact grille design also serves as an effective built-in pop and wind filter.
The microphone is powered via the included N 149 A power supply, which supports a wide input voltage range of 100–240 V, making it suitable for international studio setups. It is finished in elegant matte nickel and supplied with professional accessories for immediate studio integration.
