Genustech GNDF-82 Genus ND Fader 82mm Filter

The 82mm ND Fader filter from Genus offers a single filter that allows you to set 2 to 8 ND stops by simply rotating the filter.

The filter isindexed, so you know exactly how many ND stops you are using. It screws onto the lens just like a regular filter, and thanks to the handy rotating wheel on the filter frame, you can quickly select the desired darkening strength. There is no need to constantly change filters – as the light changes, simply turn the filter and set a different darkening value.

Neutral density (ND) filters have several uses and allow you to achieve results that would otherwise be impossible. They allow the creator to adjust the exposure without changing the color rendering. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light hitting the film or sensor.

Four main uses of ND filters:

• Enabling slow shutter speeds, especially at high ISO, to capture motion in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars.
• Reducing depth of field – using wider apertures makes it possible to separate the subject from the background.
• Reducing the effective ISO of sensitive films (above ISO 400), allowing them to be used outdoors in bright light.
• Enabling filming in bright scenes – for cine and video cameras with a fixed shutter speed, e.g., snow, sand, or other bright scenes where overexposure would otherwise be a risk.
