Take care around the sensor

The glass filter in front of the sensor is exposed during the work. Place the camera on a clean pad and do not touch the filter. When reassembling, tighten the mount evenly and in the order given in the instructions.

What the shims are for

The shims go between the lens mount and the camera body and set the distance from the sensor so that the distance to the subject matches the focus marks on the lens. They are used most often with PL lenses: cinema optics are focused by hand and have very precise scales on the barrel, so even a tenth of a millimetre shows.

How to adjust

Blackmagic URSA Mini cameras are supplied with a 0.50 mm shim already fitted. Shims are added and removed in steps of 0.10 mm – for example a 0.40 mm shim instead of the 0.50 mm one – and after reassembly you check whether your own lenses hit their marks.
