Blackmagic Mini Converter Audio to SDI 4K embeds 4 channels of balanced analog audio or 8 channels of digital AES/EBU into an SDI signal in formats up to Ultra HD and 4K DCI. It is designed for adding professional audio from mixing desks, recorders or studio equipment to 6G-SDI routes. The converter has a redundant SDI input and reclocking.
Audio embedding into 4K SDI
Embed professional analog audio or AES/EBU into an SDI signal, including Ultra HD and 4K DCI formats. The converter suits recorders as well as other SDI devices and converters.

Each of the four jacks carries one analog channel or a pair of AES/EBU channels. Audio is embedded at 48 kHz and 24 bit.

Four analog channels or eight AES/EBU
The converter embeds up to 4 channels of balanced analog audio or up to 8 channels of digital AES/EBU into the SDI signal. Each of the four jacks carries either one analog channel or a pair of AES/EBU channels (1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8).
From SD to Ultra HD
The multi-rate 6G-SDI input detects SD, HD, 3G and 6G-SDI automatically and works with SD, HD, 2K DCI, Ultra HD up to 2160p30 and 4K DCI up to 30p. Reclocking stabilizes the output signal.
Redundant SDI input
In addition to the main SDI input, the converter has a redundant ALT SDI input. If the main signal is lost, for example when a cable is damaged, the converter automatically switches over to the redundant input and the SDI output with audio keeps running.
Standard jack connectors
Audio connects via standard 1/4 inch jacks, so no custom cables are needed. Sampling at 48 kHz and 24 bit matches the television standard, and the audio stays in sync with the picture.
6G-SDI Mini Converter range
The 4K model is designed for Ultra HD production; for SD and HD up to 1080p60 the more affordable Mini Converter Audio to SDI is enough. Both models have the same audio connections and the same setup with mini switches.
Setup with mini switches or over USB
Functions are selected with mini switches using the diagram printed on the converter: analog audio or AES/EBU, sample rate conversion, the channel group in SDI that the audio is embedded into and disabling individual channels. Over USB and the utility for macOS and Windows, settings can be changed from a computer and new software installed.
For the sound control room and the studio
The Mini Converter range of converters is built for 24/7 operation: the compact metal body fits into a rack in the sound control room, in the studio or in an outside broadcast truck. The connections are easy to reach and use standard cables.
Connections
One side has four audio jacks (each for one analog channel or a pair of AES/EBU channels), the other the SDI input, the redundant ALT SDI input, the SDI output with embedded audio and the power input.

About the Mini Converter range
The Mini Converter range is designed for professional broadcast, post-production and AV installations. A compact metal chassis, high-quality connectors and standard cabling make it dependable in studios, control rooms and mobile systems.
