The Zoom H6studio Handy Recorder is a professional portable recorder that combines the quality of studio equipment with the flexibility of mobile recording.
It featuresfour F-Series preamps, six inputs, 32-bit floating-point recording, and rugged XY microphones capable of handling sound pressure levels up to 140 dB SPL. It also features advanced limiters with Look-Ahead functionality, protection against RF interference, and support for an expandable capsule system. Thanks to its ease of use and high-quality recording, it’s the ideal choice for musicians, filmmakers, and podcasters.
The H6studio brings professional-grade sound to any environment. It features large-diaphragm XY microphones and four preamps inspired by the F-Series, which ensure a clean signal with a self-noise level of -127 dBu EIN. The combination of dual A/D converters and 32-bit floating-point recording allows you to capture a dynamic range of up to 132 dB.
The built-in 19.4 mm microphones offer a balanced frequency response and a dynamic range of 123 dB. They can handle sound pressure levels up to 140 dB SPL, so they can handle even extremely loud sound sources. Their 90° XY cross-polarization helps minimize phase interference that can occur with other microphone configurations.
The recorder allows you to record in 32-bit floating-point format as well as in standard 16-bit or 24-bit WAV. 32-bit floating-point provides ample headroom for volume adjustments in post-production and helps prevent clipping issues, while 16/24-bit recording is suitable for situations where you need files ready for immediate use. You can switch between formats using a dedicated switch.
The Zoom H6 Studio can record up to eight tracks at a sampling rate of 96 kHz, including six separate inputs and a stereo mix. At 192 kHz, up to six tracks are available.
Built-in RF shielding reduces unwanted interference caused by sources such as cell phones or Wi-Fi. Additionally, the XYH-5s microphones are mounted in a shock-mounted system that helps suppress noise generated when handling the recorder.
The Look-Ahead function allows the limiter to detect approaching audio peaks and react in time to prevent signal clipping. It is effective for standard 16/24-bit recording and provides an additional level of protection even when working with the 32-bit floating-point format.
Four XLR/TRS combo jacks with +48 V phantom power and a stereo 3.5 mm input for microphones with Plug-in Power are available for connecting external equipment.
The H6studio supports interchangeable microphone capsules, including the SSH-6e, EXH-6e, WLM-1, and XYH-6e. This allows you to tailor the recorder’s configuration to the specific requirements of your recording or filming session. The WLM-1 wireless system expands your options to include wireless audio transmission.
The display shows both input signal levels and the waveform of the audio being recorded. You can easily switch between available display modes using the DISP button, so you always have important information at your fingertips.
Headphone output: 20 mW output power allows for comfortable monitoring even in noisier environments.
Line out: Stereo output with a 3.5 mm connector for connecting to a camera and synchronizing audio with video.
Built-in speaker: 250 mW output for quick playback of recorded footage.
When connected to a computer or mobile device, the Zoom H6 Studio can be used as a USB audio interface with six inputs and two outputs. Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android systems are supported. The recorder also allows for live streaming and simultaneous backup recording to a microSD card. Both 32-bit float and 16/24-bit formats are available.
With the optional TCA-1 adapter, which offers 0.5 ppm accuracy, you can work with timecode or wirelessly receive a signal from the ATOMOS UltraSync BLUE system. The ZOOM Handy Control & Sync app allows you to control multiple devices via the TCA-1 or BTA-1 adapter.
The Zoom H6studio also offers a range of other tools that simplify audio recording and post-production:
Mono mode, ideal for spoken word and interviews.
A low-cut filter to suppress unwanted low frequencies.
Normalization and export to 16/24-bit WAV.
Adjustable playback speed and looping of selected sections.
A cue tone for easier synchronization of audio with video.
Support for microSDHC and microSDXC memory cards with capacities up to 2 TB.
Memory card not included.
The recorder can operate for up to 15 hours when powered by four AA batteries. Alternatively, it can be powered via USB or using the AD-17 AC adapter, which is sold separately.
