VAXIS VFX 95mm Magnetic Black Mist Filter Kit

The VAXIS VFX 95 mm Black Mist kit contains Black Mist 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 filters and a 95 mm magnetic ring for quick mounting, swapping and stacking. The filters fit the Tilta Mirage matte box and each comes in its own Alcantara pouch.

The Black Mist 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 filters soften highlights, lower contrast and give the image a filmic atmosphere. Three strengths cover subtle to strong softening, so you choose the amount of effect to suit the scene. The 95 mm filters slide into the Tilta Mirage matte box; with the magnetic ring and a VFX lens adapter (67, 72, 77 or 82 mm) they also mount straight in front of the lens.

Strength to suit the scene

Black Mist 1/8 just takes the edge off highlights, while 1/2 creates a pronounced dreamy glow. The filters also stack.

Stacking filters

Filters in magnetic rings stack on each other, so you can combine, say, ND with a mist filter.

Bring a filter in its magnetic ring to the lens adapter or drop it into the matte box – no screwing.

A filmic look from digital

A digital sensor renders highlights sharp and contrasty. Black Mist softens them, lowers contrast and adds a gentle glow reminiscent of film stock.

Manufacturer warranty

Limited: 10 years on filters, 1 year on the magnetic ring.

Threaded lock. A magnetic thread gasket holds the filter in the ring, and the whole unit then snaps onto the magnetic lens adapter.

Strong magnets. The magnetic parts hold firmly and reliably, yet the filter comes off in one move.

Stacking filters. VFX rings stack magnetically, so combining several filters is easy.

Comparison: White Streak and Black Mist. White Streak draws streaks from point lights, and Black Mist diffuses them gently.

Installation. Screw the adapter onto the lens, place the filter in the ring and lock it, then attach the ring to the adapter magnetically.
