SIGMA 30mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary for Micro Four Thirds

The SIGMA 30 mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary is a standard lens for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. Its 39.6° angle of view corresponds to 60 mm on 35 mm film —making it a short telephoto lens suitable for portraits, photojournalism, and general photography.

The f/1.4 aperture is essential in this class: it allows you to shoot indoors without a flash and blurs the background enough to make the subject stand out—which is otherwise difficult with the smaller Micro Four Thirds sensor.

The optical design consists of nine elements in seven groups, including one aspherical and one double-sided aspherical lens. The front element is made of high-refractive-index glass with high dispersion. The aperture has nine rounded blades, so that points of bright light outside the plane of focus remain round.

Focusing is driven by a stepper motor—quietly and smoothly, which is also useful when shooting video. The minimum focusing distance is 30 cm.

Both the barrel and the aperture mechanism are made of TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), a material that expands with temperature in a manner similar to metal. As a result, the lens maintains its precision even when temperatures fluctuate.
