Saramonic K9 RX

The Saramonic K9 RX is a dual-channel digital UHF receiver of the K9 system. It receives two K9 TX or K9 XTX transmitters in the 550–960 MHz band and sends audio to a camera, recorder or mixer through two 3.5 mm analogue outputs, and to a phone or computer via USB-C. A 1.47″ colour front display and an OLED top display show the status of both channels even inside the sound bag.

Two receiver displays

The receiver has a 1.47″ colour TFT display on the front and an OLED display on top, where the sound recordist sees signal and battery of both transmitters without taking the receiver out of the bag. Eight colour tags help tell paired transmitters apart and hidden buttons prevent accidental presses.

Camera, recorder, mixer and phone

The receiver has two 3.5 mm analogue outputs (A and B) and a USB-C digital output. The outputs can be set to separate channels, stereo (A left, B right) or monitoring, with output gain from −20 to +10 dB. A cold shoe mount attaches the receiver to the camera.

Automatic frequency scanning

The receiver scans the surroundings, picks the cleanest frequency and sends it to the transmitter. It also lists ten clean frequencies rated with one to three thumbs up for manual selection. An unused channel can be switched off to save battery.

AA batteries or USB-C

The transmitter runs up to 9 hours on two lithium iron AA batteries, the receiver up to 8 hours. Alkaline, NiMH or 3.7 V lithium cells can also be used, and the devices can be powered via USB-C even while recording. Batteries are swapped in seconds.

Digital UHF 550–960 MHz

The K9 system transmits audio digitally in the wide 550–960 MHz UHF band, which resists Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interference better than 2.4 GHz and passes through obstacles more easily. Frequencies are updated via GPS, auto scanning on the receiver finds the cleanest channel, and the band is assigned according to local regulations.

130 dB dynamic range

The transmitter input has a dynamic range of 130 dB, the receiver analogue output 120 dB. Digital transmission keeps the audio uncompressed, capturing everything from a shout to a whisper without loss of quality. Frequency response is 20 Hz – 20 kHz and latency 6.3 ms.

IFB monitoring for the director

The transmitter is switched to line input and connected to the recorder output; the receiver in monitor mode then sends the sound mix to the director’s headphones. The director hears the actors in real time without waiting for playback; monitor volume has 12 levels.

Saramonic System app

Over Bluetooth you control up to 48 devices from your phone: groups, gain, frequencies, transmitter sleep mode to save battery and batch firmware updates. At first power-on the K9 is activated in the app, which assigns the frequency band permitted in your country based on the phone location.

Recorder, mixer and stage

A 3.5 mm TRS to XLR cable connects the receiver to a recorder or mixing console, a 3.5 mm TRS to TRS cable to a camera and a USB-C to USB-C cable to a phone or computer. The system suits filming, live streaming and stage use.

Receiver runtime by battery type

The receiver runs up to 8 hours on 1.5 V lithium iron cells, 6.5 hours on 3.7 V lithium cells and 5.4 hours on NiMH Eneloop. The values were measured in the Saramonic acoustic lab under standard conditions.

Compatibility and firmware

The K9 TX and K9 XTX transmitters send to the K9 RX receiver. For a reliable connection they need firmware K9 XTX V2.64 or later, K9 TX V2.65 or later and K9 RX V2.60 or later; updates are done in the Saramonic System app.
