The lens covers an ultra-wide 20mm focal length, which was difficult to achieve with conventional wide-range zoom lenses. The lens handles everything from majestic landscapes to sports, perfectly capturing both scenes typical of ultra-wide angles and applications that take advantage of its telephoto focal length. With a comprehensive zoom range from 20mm to 200mm, this perfect all-round zoom lens provides stunning detail in a wide range of photographic situations.

Maximum magnification of 1:2 at a focal length of 28–85 mm

The lens achieves a maximum magnification of 1:2 at focal lengths from 28mm to 85mm, allowing photographers to take advantage of a wide range of semi-macro photography with different angles of view, from wide macro shots that boldly include the background by getting close to the subject, to medium telephoto macro shots that emphasize the subject at a natural distance.

Compact and lightweight design

This lens is the world's first to achieve a huge zoom range from an ultra-wide 20mm to a telephoto 200mm, while weighing only 550g and measuring just 115.5mm in length*1. The zoom ring diameter is very thin at 70.4mm, making it highly portable. Without worrying about size or weight, the lens provides extensive creative flexibility in any situation, from everyday snapshots to travel photography.

Optical and mechanical design ensuring compact size and high performance

The use of high-refractive-index glass materials reduces lens movement during zooming. This enables a simple internal construction and a thin lens body.
The optical design, which correctly positions four double-sided aspherical lenses, one FLD glass lens, and three SLD glass lenses, combined with an internal mechanism that maintains high precision in each zoom group, also provides high performance throughout the zoom range.

High-speed AF with HLA

To enable photographers to capture even the most fleeting moments, the lens uses a High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) motor to achieve high-speed autofocus with excellent drive precision.

Dust- and splash-resistant*1 construction and water- and oil-repellent coating

In addition to its dust- and splash-resistant construction, the front of the lens features a water- and oil-repellent coating, so photographers can shoot with confidence even in harsh outdoor conditions.

Equipped with a zoom lock switch at the wide end

The lens is equipped with a zoom lock switch that can be fixed at the wide end to prevent the lens from extending unintentionally under its own weight. The lock can be released not only with the switch, but also with the zoom, allowing for flexible handling even when shooting on the fly.

Designed to minimize flare and ghosting

Reflections and ghosting, which reduce image quality, are addressed in all light conditions using state-of-the-art simulation technology. High backlight resistance enables clear and sharp images in all lighting conditions.
