Sony Alpha A7 IV set

The latest addition to Sony’s Alpha A7 family of hybrid photo/video DSLM cameras features a newly developed 33MP full-frame sensor, the latest version of the BIONZ XR processor, and an advanced AF system based on technologies from the flagship Alpha 1 model. The sensor boasts a dynamic range of 15 EV and a wide sensitivity range (up to ISO 50–204800); video recording is possible in Super 35 4Kp60 or FF 4Kp30 modes with 4:2:2, 10-bit sampling. When paired with a Sony E-mount lens, the Sony Alpha A7 IV also offers a new Breathing Compensation feature to minimize lens breathing. It also features a 5-axis image stabilization system, a more comfortable grip, a CFexpress Type A media slot, and an OLED viewfinder with 1.6x higher resolution compared to the A7 III. A kit with the Sony FE 28–70mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS lens will also be available. Body only. We have the A7 IV, including the FE 28–70mm kit lens, on display at our showroom in Prague for hands-on testing. The Alpha A7 IV offers a range of advanced Sony technologies, including the latest BIONZ XR image-processing processor and a powerful AF system that utilizes algorithms from the flagship Alpha 1 model, and also introduces new features in terms of ergonomics and enhanced operational reliability. Thanks to its powerful 33MP sensor and extensive video capabilities, it is a versatile hybrid camera that meets the needs of both professional photographers and videographers. The new model was also designed with the environment in mind, utilizing SORPLAS recycled plastic for parts of the body and packaging made from recyclable materials with a lower plastic content. The redesigned body shape and lens mount contribute to greater resistance to dust and moisture.

Excellent image quality
Thanks to the new 33MP Exmor R CMOS sensor, it offers excellent image quality, sensitivity expandable up to ISO 50-204800, and a dynamic range of 15 EV. The result is smooth transitions, detailed, fine textures, and low noise levels. Plus, with Creative Look settings, it’s easy to create original shots, whether in photo or video mode.

Powerful AF System
The BIONZ XR processor, adopted from the flagship Alpha 1 model, ensures a high-performance autofocus system for continuous shooting at up to 10 fps with automatic focus and exposure control. The phase-detection system tracks 759 points across an area equivalent to approximately 94% of the image frame. For the first time ever, the Real-time Eye AF system is also capable of tracking the eyes of animals, including birds, in both still and video modes. Compared to the Alpha A7 III, the accuracy of human face and eye detection has also been improved.

Comfortable Video Recording
The Alpha A7 IV builds on Sony’s long-standing experience as a major innovator in video recording, offering features such as the S-Cinetone picture mode adopted from the Cinema Line series (Venice, FX3/6/9...). In Super 35mm mode, you can shoot at up to 4Kp60, and in Full Frame mode at up to 30p. Smooth transitions are ensured by 4:2:2 (10-bit) color sampling, while recording in the XAVC S-I intra-frame format or XAVC HS with more efficient compression facilitates easy editing of the captured footage. When paired with Sony E-mount lenses, the A7 IV also offers a new Breathing Compensation feature to suppress “breathing” (changes in angle of view during focusing) and improved AF Assist technology.

The camera also features a 5-axis image stabilization system, improved ergonomics, a CFexpress Type A media slot, a 3.65MP OLED viewfinder with 1.6x higher resolution compared to the Alpha 7 III, and continuous 4Kp60 video recording for over an hour thanks to improved heat dissipation. Videographers can also take advantage of the “Active Mode” stabilization mode, the rear 3-inch 1.03MP touchscreen LCD, and high-capacity Z-series batteries.

Connectivity
In line with growing demands for real-time communication, the Alpha A7 IV offers a wide range of technologies for streaming and sharing media without compromising image or sound quality. Connecting to the Imaging Edge Mobile app is made easy via Bluetooth, while high data transfer speeds are ensured by support for 5GHz/2.4GHz Wi-Fi. A new feature is “Shot Mark” for easy navigation of user markers within video sequences, both directly in the camera and in the Sony Catalyst Browse/Prepare program. Also new are features for easy live streaming without dedicated software, including support for UVC (USB Video Class) and UAC (USB Audio Class) standards.
