Blackmagic Design URSA Cine 12K + EVF

The URSA Cine professional digital film camera is equipped with a new, revolutionary sensor designed to deliver stunning images at all resolutions from 4K to 12K. The larger sensor builds on the technology of the URSA Mini Pro 12K, featuring larger pixels for a 16 EV dynamic range. The sensor’s unique RGBW architecture provides an equal number of red, green, and blue pixels. This means it is optimized to deliver incredibly rich colors at all resolutions and provide maximum image quality.

The URSA Cine is designed to meet the demands of high-end film production. The evenly balanced camera body is constructed from a rugged magnesium alloy chassis and a lightweight polycarbonate composite shell, which helps users move quickly on set. Standard Lemo and Fischer connectors allow for remote camera control while also providing power to lens motors and other accessories. Users also have access to 12G-SDI, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, XLR audio, and other interfaces.

The full sensor area delivers a stunning 3:2 Open Gate image, allowing for easy cropping of shots in post-production. Alternatively, users can take advantage of the large sensor area for anamorphic shooting to create 1.3x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.66x, 1.8x, and 2x aspect ratio shots. In addition, users can shoot in 4K, 8K, or 12K resolution using the entire sensor without cropping, thereby preserving the full field of view of their lenses. There are even 9K Super 35 modes available for full compatibility with classic cinema lenses.

Different projects require different lenses, which is why the URSA Cine is equipped with an interchangeable lens mount. Users can quickly switch between PL, LPL, EF, and Hasselblad mounts. Each mount also features contacts for reading lens metadata for monitoring and post-production use.

URSA Cine allows crews to work faster on set thanks to multiple monitoring options. The camera features a large 5-inch HDR touchscreen on one side and an external color status LCD display on the other. On the right side of the camera is a dedicated assistant station with a second 5-inch HDR touchscreen, allowing the crew to work around the camera without needing external monitors. There’s even a special mode for precise focusing.

Thanks to a wide range of standard industry connections, the URSA Cine is ideal for high-end film production. The 7-pin Lemo connector and 3-pin Fischer connector on the front panel control record start/stop and provide 24 V power, making them ideal for on-board accessories such as focus motors. The camera is powered via a standard 24V 8-pin Lemo connector, and there is an additional 2-pin 12V Lemo connector on the rear for accessories requiring a lower voltage.

Blackmagic RAW files store camera metadata, lens data, white balance, and LUTs, ensuring image consistency during both shooting and post-production. The URSA Cine records to the included 8TB Blackmagic Media Module, allowing users to capture more than 4 hours of footage in Blackmagic RAW at 12K or up to 20 hours at 4K!

URSA Cine features a high-performance optical low-pass filter (OLPF) that is precisely matched to the sensor. The OLPF also includes updated infrared filtering, which, combined with Blackmagic RAW processing for URSA Cine, preserves colors and critical image details for a new level of image fidelity.

URSA Cine is the first digital film camera with built-in ultra-fast, high-capacity Cloud Store technology. The Blackmagic Media Module is fast, durable, and features massive 8 TB of storage. High-speed storage allows users to record at the highest resolutions and frame rates for hours on end and access files directly over a high-speed 10G Ethernet network. Alternatively, users can utilize media they already own using the optional Blackmagic Media Module CF, which features two CFexpress slots.

The Blackmagic Media Dock speeds up the post-production workflow by accelerating and simplifying the start of editing and color correction. Connect up to three Blackmagic Media Modules for high-speed access to media from multiple URSA Cine cameras simultaneously. Four high-speed 10G Ethernet ports allow for direct connection of up to four separate editing workstations and remain extremely fast even when many users are connected at once.

In addition to the original camera media, URSA Cine supports the creation of a small H.264 proxy file during recording. This can be uploaded to Blackmagic Cloud in seconds, making the media available back in the studio in real time. The ability to transfer media directly into a DaVinci Resolve bin while editors are working is revolutionary!

Users can now also live stream from the shoot. URSA Cine features a built-in hardware streaming engine that supports RTMP and SRT streaming to major platforms or directly to clients. Simply connect to the internet via Ethernet, high-speed Wi-Fi, or even a 4G or 5G phone for mobile data.

URSA Cine supports the Blackmagic URSA Cine EVF electronic viewfinder, which is included in this kit and enables precise and easy outdoor and handheld shooting. Users get an integrated high-quality 1920 x 1080 color OLED display with a built-in proximity sensor and a 4-element glass diopter for high precision with a wide range of focus adjustments.

The URSA Cine features an 8-pin Lemo power connector on the rear of the camera that works with both 24V and 12V power sources. This means the camera can be easily used with existing power supplies, batteries, and accessories. The URSA Cine comes with a 250W power supply and a B-Mount battery plate, allowing users to use a wide range of high-voltage batteries from manufacturers such as IDX, Blueshape, Core SWX, BEBOB, and others.

The URSA Cine comes with everything users need to start shooting. Each camera comes in a rugged Pelican case with custom foam inserts that precisely and securely hold the camera and its accessories. A PL lens mount is pre-installed on the camera body, and users also receive a replaceable, lockable EF mount for a firm and secure hold when using heavier EF lenses. Users also receive a pre-installed, formatted, and recording-ready 8TB recording module, a top handle, antennas for high-speed Wi-Fi, a base plate, a 24V power supply, and a high-voltage plate for mounting Type B batteries for quick setup.
