ATEM Mini production switchers make it easy to create live shows for YouTube and professional corporate presentations using Skype or Zoom, multiple camera inputs, or the ability to incorporate output from a game console or computer into a presentation, such as a PowerPoint presentation. Integrated effects allow you to create crossfades or picture-in-picture shots, create live-commented videos, and more.

All ATEM Mini series models have a USB interface that works in webcam mode for streaming output and an HDMI output suitable for previewing on a TV or projector, for example. The ATEM Mini Pro and Extreme models also allow the use of the USB interface for recording to USB drives. Microphone inputs allow you to connect microphones for recording interviews and commentary on presentations.

ATEM Mini modes have an integrated compact console with buttons for selecting inputs and effects. The ATEM Mini Pro and Extreme models also offer buttons to control recording and streaming and to switch the output between camera outputs and Program and Multiview modes. The rear panel features HDMI inputs for cameras or other video sources, microphone inputs, a USB interface, and HDMI ("Aux") outputs.

Streaming
The ATEM Mini Pro and ATEM Mini Extreme models feature a hardware encoder for live streaming over Ethernet. This allows you to stream to platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch in high quality, without the risk of frame drops and with easier configuration. The ATEM Software Control application offers a variety of features for setting up your broadcast, including a multi-view output that shows a preview of your broadcast status, including data flow. Advanced users and studio engineers can edit streaming profiles in an XML file that contains the complete device settings.

For easier streaming from locations outside the studio, ATEM Mini Pro and Extreme models support internet connectivity via 4G and 5G mobile phones (iOS and Android) and USB interfaces. This feature can also be used to create a backup connection to the Ethernet interface for increased operational reliability. Once connected, the phone is also powered from the USB interface.

Recording to USB Drives
The ATEM Mini Pro and Extreme variants also support direct recording of streamed video to USB drives. This allows for long recordings—in the same H.264 format with AAC audio as used for streaming—as well as subsequent uploading to other online video platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo. The controllers support endless sequential recording to multiple drives connected via a USB hub or Blackmagic MultiDock, for example. Recording settings and drive selection can be made using the ATEM software control; multiple outputs display the recording status.

The ATEM Mini Pro ISO and Extreme ISO versions enable post-production of live performances by simultaneously recording multiple video tracks, i.e., all unedited inputs and outputs of the performance, including metadata and timecode. Stills used are also stored along with the videos. This allows users to easily edit the broadcast program using color corrections, effects, and new graphics. The audio side of the show is also recorded for subsequent audio post-production.

ISO models can also save the project in DaVinci Resolve format, so it can be opened with a single click of the mouse! The project file retains all edits, transition effects, and still images. This makes it easy to edit edit tracks or replace them entirely using DaVinci Resolve's Sync Bin feature for multi-camera editing. For Ultra HD project transformation and maximum color correction quality, recorded tracks can be replaced with the original Blackmagic RAW videos from the cameras.

Inputs/Outputs
Two independent stereo audio inputs with 3.5 mm jacks allow you to use lapel microphones to broadcast interviews and discussions, for example. The ATEM Mini audio core is based on Fairlight technology for high-quality, stable mixing of all audio sources (HDMI, microphone inputs) in real time. ATEM Mini Extreme variants offer an additional headphone output.

Each HDMI input is fully synchronized and automatically converts 1080p, 1080i, and 720p signals to the current director resolution. In Program/Preview mode, the HDMI output can display a preview of the output from the cameras or the program being created, while the ATEM Mini Pro and Extreme models offer an additional output with multiple previews.

ATEM Software Control
The free ATEM Software Control app unlocks the hidden power of ATEM Mini production switchers! It allows you to fully configure all production functions via USB or Ethernet; the network interface also allows multiple users to connect. The integrated media library can be used to import up to 20 RGBA still images from ATEM Software Control for logos, titles, or splash screens, or you can import graphics from Photoshop using the included plug-in. In addition, production settings can be saved to XML files or HyperDeck disk recorders can be controlled remotely via Ethernet.

DVE Effects
ATEM Mini Extreme models offer four chroma key effects for easily creating spectacular virtual studios with up to four cameras. With eight inputs, you can connect four cameras and the same number of generated backgrounds from the virtual studio system. Alternatively, you can create static camera positions and use static images from internal libraries and media players as backgrounds. Of course, you can create macros to change cameras and load the correct backgrounds into media libraries. Another option is to use DeckLink Quad HDMI hardware and software to create virtual studios in real time.

In addition to the two independent DVE effects in ATEM Mini Extreme models, there is also a very powerful SuperSource compositing processor with four additional DVE layers and an additional layer for the background. Any of the ATEM Mini Extreme's director inputs can be used as a source for individual DVE layers, which are then combined with a background selected from the media library. SuperSource is ideal for picture-in-picture compositions with multiple presenters and guests, while still leaving two DVE effects available for additional graphics.

Multiview
For more complex productions with multiple cameras, it is necessary to display all outputs from cameras and other video sources together on a single monitor. The ATEM Mini Pro and ATEM Mini Extreme models offer professional multi-output for previewing all video inputs and displaying the program and preview on an HDMI monitor or TV. Each camera preview also displays the name, audio meters, and sum indicator. The multi-view display also shows the media player, recording and streaming status, and the Fairlight virtual mixing console.

ATEM Streaming Bridge
The ATEM Streaming Bridge is a dedicated H.264 video stream converter from ATEM Mini Pro and ATEM Mini Extreme control units to SDI and HDMI interfaces. This makes it easy to transfer video within local networks or globally via the Internet. The H.264 video codec used ensures high image quality at low data rates. ATEM Streaming Bridge therefore allows you to create a network of studios equipped with ATEM Mini Pro and Extreme and collaborate with bloggers or local news organizations, for example. ATEM software creates a configuration file that users can email to individual studios.
