The Sony PXW-X500 camcorder records to memory cards and is designed for shooting from the shoulder. It delivers excellent image quality thanks to a trio of 2/3" CCD image sensors and records in several HD formats, including 1080p. It is ideal for filming TV series, live productions, news programs and sports broadcasts. It will be on sale from around October
Multiformat recording
The PXW-X500 can record video in several formats, including SD (e.g. MPEG IMX and DVCAM) and HD formats (MPEG-4 SStP and MPEG HD422, XAVC Intra 4:2:2 1080 59.94/60i and XAVC Long 4:2:2 1080 59.94/60p). An update will be available in early 2015 to bring support for Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHD formats
New Power HAD FX CCD sensors
The newly developed 2/3" Power HAD FX CCD sensors produce high image quality with wide signal-to-noise ratio (60 dB) at high sensitivity (F11 in 1080/59.94i and F12 in 1080/60i). The camera also allows you to record slow-motion or sped-up footage. When using the XAVC codec, up to 120p can optionally be recorded at 1080 resolution (A PXWK-503- Slow&Quick Option key is required to enable 120 fps recording to XAVC format. Available in October

Additionally, it is also possible to create proxy video files from high-resolution videos and upload them to an SD card. In 2015, the wireless module will be able to transmit proxy videos to Wi-Fi or LTE networks. There is also a GPS function to automatically record GPS coordinates into MXF files, e.g. for intelligence or security purposes.
